My name is Emma Houghton, I am a freelance graphic designer and web designer in Eastbourne. I trade using my company name ‘Superlative Design’ and I produce high quality, effective and branded design for all aspects of marketing be it in print material or online.
I consider myself to be an honest, reliable and hard working graphic and web designer. I love acquiring new design skills and have great satisfaction in completing all of my projects. I love hearing how happy my clients are. Service is so important to me that it is imperative I give my customers the service I’d expect to receive.
I started my design career at my local paper – The Eastbourne Herald as a Junior Graphic Designer. Here I found out what is really like to work in this field. I learnt how to use the software more productively, how to keep to strict deadlines, proofing, copywriting and workload management. My time there taught me a very valuable lesson for this industry.
Since then I have had a couple of other Graphic Design positions at a variety of companies, undertaking projects in a number of different ways. Working for these different companies, taking direction from different people has shaped me in to the efficient and versatile designer I am today.
I have also worked as a graphic designer for a small design agency in Battle. I produced artwork for advertisements, brochures, business stationery, websites, email marketing and promotional material including packaging and clothing. I would take a brief from a client and produce proofs through to printing by communicating with the client and the agency’s Art Director. I was also responsible for proof-reading and occasionally, copywriting and photography.
I have been independently freelancing since the end of 2009. I have a number of great clients from varying industries including Dentists, Car Sales, Fresh Local Produce, Estate Agent, Concrete Manufacturer, Freight Managers, Photonics Scientists, Geophysicist and Accountants.
I use an industry standard Adobe Creative Suite software package. This allows be to produce print-ready artwork with the correct standards required by most professional printers.
For web design, as standard, I install and integrate WordPress for a user-friendly content management system. This gives my client’s the ability to make amendment and additions to their own sites. I will design a layout and style in Photoshop prior to building the WordPress theme.
Other services I offer include Powerpoint and Keynote presentations, Microsoft Word and Excel Letterhead and branding, and Email Marketing templates.
I studied for a BSc Honors degree in Entertainment Technology at The University of Portsmouth. I passed with Honors and gained some great knowledge and many skills that have proved worthwhile in my design career. My degree course focused on web design, graphics, audio, video production and animation. Having studied these modules I am able to use a variety of software programs for a range of media projects. Since then I focused on developing a career in Graphic Design and have since progressed into Web Design and now offer web design as the main part of my day to day work as a freelance graphic and web designer in Eastbourne.
I asked Emma to add some landing pages to my website and generally make it more efficient. If I had attempted this myself it would have taken me many hours. Emma did it perfectly in very little time. I was equally impressed with her invoice, which was my ‘bargain of the year’. Fast, professional, top quality and modestly priced – what more could you ask for!
Emma was recommended to us via a mutual friend, one recommendation we really appreciated. Emma was immediately supportive and made the whole creative process stress free. We are absolutely delighted with the branding, design and thoroughly enjoyed the whole process. Her fees were competitive, her work was completed effectively and efficiently - she was a absolute pleasure to work with. Thank you Emma.
