My name is Emma Houghton, I live in Eastbourne, East Sussex and I am a freelance graphic and web designer. I trade using my company name ‘Superlative Design’ and I strive to produce high quality, sleek and stylish design for all the projects I undertake. I consider myself to be an honest, self-motivated and hard working person. I love learning new design methods and have great satisfaction in completing projects. My skills as a designer have improved greatly over the past year working for a well-reputed design agency. I have learnt the necessary skills needed to design websites, email marketing and a variety of print based material to an exceptionally high standard.

• Education

  I went to The University of Portsmouth and studied for a BSc Honors degree in Entertainment Technology. I passed with Honors and gained some great knowledge and many skills that have proved worthwhile in my design career. My degree course focused on web design, graphics, audio, video production and animation. Having studied these modules I am able to use a variety of software programs for a range of media projects. Since then I focused on developing a career in Graphic Design and have since progressed into Web Design.

• Experience

  I started my design career at my local paper - The Eastbourne Herald as a Junior Graphic Designer. Here I found out what is really like to work in this field. I learnt how to use the software more productively, how to keep to strict deadlines, proofing, copywriting and workload management. My time there taught me a very valuable lesson for this industry. Since then I have had a couple of other Graphic Design positions at a variety of companies, undertaking projects in a number of different ways. Working for these different companies, taking direction from different people has shaped me in to the efficient and versatile designer I am today.
  I have, until recently, worked as a graphic designer for a small design agency in Battle called The Detective Agency. I produced artwork for advertisements, brochures, business stationary, websites, email marketing and promotional material including packaging and clothing. I would take a brief from a client and produce proofs through to printing by communicating with the client and the agency’s Art Director. I was also responsible for proof-reading and occasionally, copywriting and photography.

• Skills

  As part of my every day role I use many computer packages. I am fluent with the use of InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, CSS Edit, Fireworks, and QuarkXPress. I understand HTML, CSS and can incorporate JQuery and Java scripts into websites to produce sleek interfaces. I have a good knowledge of Microsoft Office, Keynote, Final Cut Pro and have a good understanding of Flash. I am competent at using both PC and Apple Mac platforms.

I also offer the design of vehicle graphics and large format advertising (for banners and billboards etc...)
